Homecoming

barneyb&w
Gertrude Stein's famed declaration, "there is no there there" constantly nags me. I feel those words wrapping their way around me every time I pick up a camera, reminding me that photography is a language of sensitivity and perception. I encounter so many photographs, some mine and some others, of which nothing should be said but "there is no there there".

Last week I photographed close to 70 people in 10 days. It was exhilarating and demanding of my creativity in ways I really appreciated. As I sift through the thousands of images of people, couples, families and friends I am reassured of my passion when I see something there. This "something" is not found in every image but I know it when I see it and I am proud of what I see- I see something there there.
